Portrait Commission Process

A custom portrait begins with the artist and client meeting in person or via phone to establish a vision for the piece. In the initial meeting, aspects such as the subject, size, material, and mood are determined.

I prefer to take my own photographs for commissions, but existing photographs can be used if they meet the standard needed to create a quality art piece.

After the initial meeting, images and/or sketches are provided to the client for approval. Upon approval, a quote is emailed to the client along with the final details. The price of the work is determined by the medium, size, number of subjects, and complexity of the background.

A non-refundable deposit of 50% will be due in advance with the balance paid at completion of the commission and acceptance by the client. Fees are for the artwork only and do not include out-of-town travel expenses, framing, state sales tax, or shipping.

Once begun, commissioned portraits generally take 1-6 months to complete depending on their size and complexity.  Your deposit will secure a place in my schedule.
